PartnershipRikkyo University’s College of Business

Cooperation with business and industry

The College of Business engages actively with academic, societal, and corporate bodies over a wide range of fields to carry out human resource and research cooperation activities. This allows us to form effective partnerships with industry and to take on responsibility for cooperation with our local and global community.
Cooperation with business and industry can be divided broadly into two areas.
First is related to outsourcing, and joint research. Second relates to interchange of students, researchers and personnel, including internships and fellowship systems.
The details of cooperation with business and industry that this college will undertake from academic year 2006 are as follows:

With Respect to Society

Outsourcing from, and joint research with private industry and public entities
Increasingly, amid globalization of the economy and development of an advanced IT society, a company's business model and the sources of its competitive edge are changing dramatically. At the same time, private companies and public bodies have had to change their frameworks for research and development. The College of Business undertakes outsourcing work as well as joint research with private industry and public entities. Our faculty members cooperate to help resolve social problems by conveying the results of this research to a wide audience.
Training the Leaders of the Next Generation
At the College of Business, the curriculum is centered on the Business Leadership Program (BLP) and the Bilingual Business Leader Program (BBL). In doing so, we will concentrate on training and developing leaders for Japan's next generation.
To make both programs effective in meeting the needs of industry, we are holding a continuous series of research meetings at which professors and industry leaders together map out details of the programs.

By developing an educational program that can nurture highly competent human resources—a pool of people who can lead Japan into the future—we take on our most important social responsibility as an educational institution.

With Respect to Students

Establishing the Enterprise Lecture
n order to have students know about the real-life activities of a company, we established as a free elective an "enterprise person" seminar through tie-ups with Japanese and international companies than have made great strides on the global market (Enterprise Person seminar 1, seminar 2 and seminar 3). In the second half of 2006, there will be an enterprise person lecture on distribution and franchise that we will begin from the second half of 2006. This course was established through the kindness of Seven Eleven Japan founder Shimizu Hideo. For this course we have invited top management from franchise companies as lecturers for over half of the thirteen lectures in the semester. While it operates as an educational project, where the lecturers provide information about on-site business management to the students, the contents of the lectures as well as information from the question-and-answer sessions is also used as material for research. The results of this research are disseminated widely, contributing to the soundness of the franchise industry.
Implementing Internships at Home and Abroad
From the summer after their third year, students are assigned either to a domestic internship or an overseas internship program for gaining work experience, and this is counted as credit towards graduation. By the experience of working on-site in the business environment, students ascertain their capabilities and suitability for a given industry, while at the same time making a stride forward toward becoming a business leader.

AIESEC

AISEC is the world's largest student organization offering international internship programs. Since it was established in 1948, the activities have been widely recognized and currently it has a global network that extends to 89 countries and regions, involving the activities of 18,000 students at over 800 universities. AISEC activities offer the opportunity for students to experience internships at international companies and NGO's, help students realize their own potential, and help develop citizens who will be responsible for the next generation of international society.

AISEC places the greatest importance on international understanding and mutual cooperation between different cultures. In Japan, a committee represents 24 major universities, and about 1000 students take part each year, of which about 150 students participate in overseas activities. At Rikkyo University, members of the AIESEC Rikkyo committee arrange cooperation with companies and support overseas internships at businesses that offer experience to a large number of students.

Advisory

Advisory Boards are in place at COB, which have been established to assess the results of the various programs offered and provide opinions on ways to improve the programs. The assessment and advice is also given for external activities engaged in by COB, such as cooperation with business and industry incorporating education and research activities, and links with high schools, other universities and society in general. The Advisory Board for COB activities as a whole has been holding meetings since fiscal 2009 and the Advisory Board for the Business Leadership Program (BLP) has been operating since fiscal 2008.
