【Ice-breaker Activities】
In this session, all students introduced themselves and engaged in mini-riddle-games prepared by the BL1 Student Assistants (SAs).
The BL1 SAs not only created the riddles but also took charge of moderating the day’s activities. Even though the participants were grouped across different courses, the engaging content made the event fun for everyone, quickly warming up the atmosphere.

【Opening Presentation by Associate Professor Tateno, Chief of BLP】
Following that, Associate Professor Tateno, Chief of the BLP, gave an insightful presentation explaining the purpose of BLP and discussing the concepts of “Use of Authority” and “Leadership Responsibility”.
(Excerpt below)
—---
The BLP is designed with a progressive structure that allows students to gradually step up from BL0 to BL4. BL0 (for first-year students) aims to help students gain a closer understanding of businesses, while BL2 (for second-year students) offers opportunities to learn about Business-to-Business (B-to-B) companies, as well as work on assignments helpful for job hunting. In BL4 (for all students over third-year, excluding COB students), the aim is to conduct thorough research and develop realistic business plans. Between these stages, students can also enhance their skills through BL1 (for first-year students) and BL3-A/B/C (for students over second-year). One of the key features of the BLP is a well-established Student Assistant system, in which senior students take on roles in managing and leading classes, continuously improving the program.
Although the concept of “Leadership Education” was not widely recognized at the start of the BLP, it has gained recognition in recent years. The BLP places great importance on demonstrating leadership that does not rely solely on authority. This does not mean that authority itself is negative, but rather that leadership can be exercised by anyone, regardless of their role. To achieve this, it is essential to understand the structure of organization and to be mindful of the “baton” that passes from the past to the future. I hope that Rikkyo COB students will develop a leadership style that allows everyone to fully express their unique strengths.

【Supplementary Comment on “Authority” from Visiting Associate Professor Uda】
(Excerpt below)
—---
“Authority” is the power to influence others on legitimate grounds. It is not inherently negative but essential for the proper functioning of any organization. Responsibility and authority are inseparable. For example, Student Assistants hold both responsibility and authority over participants. They must use their authority to manage classes when necessary, carefully considering whether it is required to maximize participants’ learning and growth.

【Main Work Session】
At the beginning of this session, participants used clay to express their current leadership style. They intuitively and enjoyably crafted the art representing their personality and strengths. After a group discussion about their arts, they made a second piece of clay art to represent their leadership style when they first entered university. They then compared both clay arts, reflecting on their growth and the stories behind it. This activity not only deepened self-awareness but also fostered collaboration and mutual understanding, as students compromised on clay colors and shared interpretations of each other’s creations.
【Handover Session】
During the student-led handover session, Student Assistants from BB1 to BB4 exchanged information, insights, and lessons learned on class management during the spring semester. They also discussed concerns and questions for the upcoming autumn semester. Through interactive discussions with students from different courses, they explored improved approaches to class management. Additionally, connecting with students from other grades gave them an opportunity to share information about university life and job hunting.
【Reflection】
As in previous years, a reflection meeting was held at SUNSHINE CRUISE CRUISE, providing a valuable opportunity for faculty and students from across the BLP courses to engage with and exchange ideas. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who participated despite their busy schedules.
